Newly remastered from the original tapes, Sleepwal... Moreker is the 16th studio album by The Kinks and the first under a new deal with Arista Records, following their departure from RCA Records. Recording for the album began during the long hot summer of 1976 at the band's KONK Studio in London. Released in February 1977, the album marked a significant shift for the band, as it moved away from the conceptual work that had characterized their early `70s output toward a return to a more conventional, mainstream rock n' roll sound with contemporary, polished production and a focus on accessible melodic rock. The new approach marked a commercial resurgence for the band, especially in the US, where the album reached #21 on the Billboard 200. Critics praised the straightforward rock sound and Ray Davies's signature songwriting, wit and observational style. Available on 180g black vinyl. Less
The Beggar was written and produced by Michael Gir... Morea and features contributions from recent and former Swans, members of Angels of Light, as well as Guest Swan Ben Frost. "After numerous pandemic-induced cancellations of tours for the previous Swans album leaving meaning, and an apparent bottomless pit of waiting, waiting, waiting, and the strange disorientation that came with this sudden but interminable forced isolation I decided it was time to write songs for a new Swans album and forget about everything else. They came relatively easily, always informed by the suspicion that these could be my last. When I finally was able to travel, songs in hand, to Berlin to work with my friends recording this record, the feeling was akin to the moment in The Wizard of Oz when the film changes from Black and White to Color. Now I'm feeling quite optimistic. My favourite color is pink. I hope you enjoy the album." - Michael Gira Less
Limited red colored vinyl LP pressing. As the Rose... Moremary Hill EP begins, Sixpence None the Richer's first release since 2012, Leigh Nash sings, "In the eye of the storm, I'm gonna thread the needle." Now three decades after Nash met her musical partner Matt Slocum in New Braunfels, Texas, Sixpence is threading the needle in the sweet spot they have often longed for throughout a stormy yet momentous career. Slocum confesses that two of the six new songs are an attempt to immortalize their hometown: "New Braunfels was an amazing place to grow up... We could roam freely in the streets, from sunup to sundown." Nash adds, "Meeting Matt is the most important thing that happened for me in New Braunfels." That rings true for all of us; New Braunfels, Texas is the birthplace of Sixpence None the Richer, a great American rock 'n' roll band. While Sixpence has been Nashville-based for most of their career, Rosemary Hill reveals they are at heart a Texas band. The title track cites the street Slocum grew up on, as Nash sings Slocum's words, "That was a long time ago - But the feelings, they don't get old - Every time that I come home - I'll be riding, I'll be flying on Rosemary Hill - My Rosemary Hill." Daptone Records is proud to present The Budos Band... More III, unleashing The Budos Bands brazen sound and inspiring fervor among music lovers throughout the world. Produced by Bosco Mann and TNT at Daptone Records House of Soul Studios in Bushwick, Brooklyn, the band's third full-length studio effort was conceived during weekly, beer-fueled Staten Island writing sessions as well as more than 150 live gigs over the last two years and recorded during a 48 hour period in January 2010. If the menacing album art, which features a cobra primed for the attack, is any indication of the music itself, we can expect an all out assault of the senses, with a tendency towards the venomous and psychedelic. Ghosts of West Virginia centers on the Upper Big B... Moreranch coal mine explosion that killed twenty-nine men in that state in 2010, making it one of the worst mining disasters in American history. When asked about what drove him to craft his deeply evocative new album, Steve Earle says, “I thought that, given the way things are now, it was maybe my responsibility to make a record that spoke to and for people who didn’t vote the way that I did,” he says. “One of the dangers that we’re in is if people like me keep thinking that everybody who voted for Trump is a racist or an asshole, then we’re fucked, because it’s simply not true. So this is one move toward something that might take a generation to change. I wanted to do something where that dialogue could begin.” In ten deftly drawn, roughly eloquent, powerfully conveyed sonic portraits, Earle and his long-time band the Dukes explore the historical role of coal in rural communities. More than merely a question of jobs and income, mining has provided a sense of unity and meaning, patriotic pride and purpose “I said I wanted to speak to people that didn’t necessarily vote the way that I did,” he says, “but that doesn’t mean we don’t have anything in common. We need to learn how to communicate with each other. My involvement in this project is my little contribution to that effort. And the way to do that – and to do it impeccably – is simply to honor those guys who died at Upper Big Branch.” Less

The Bootleg Series Vol. 3: Miles At The Fillmore i... Mores available as a deluxe 6-LP boxset, housed in a lift-off box. Miles At The Fillmore - The Bootleg Series Vol. 3 features four historic performances from the Fillmore East and West in 1970, at a time when Miles Davis was single-handedly bringing jazz into the commercial rock era. The visionary Bill Graham had booked Miles on a bill with The Grateful Dead at the Fillmore West and with fellow Columbia artist Laura Nyro in June 1970. The latter recordings are the earliest documented live performances of Miles's band when he hired the keyboardists Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett, along with saxophonist Steve Grossman who had replaced Wayne Shorter. The rest of the rhythm section - bassist Dave Holland, drummer Jack DeJohnette and percussionist Airto Moreira - were the backbone of his band throughout this explosive period. Curated by Carlos Santana, this set features fascinating firsthand accounts and profound insight into a seismic shift in American society, music, and culture. In a rare, in-depth interview, Miles was "so excited about the music that he wanted every set, every note made available to the public..." The searing heat of these concerts, originally issued in severely edited form, are now made whole. This set includes several bonus tracks like Wayne Shorter's "Paraphernalia" and "Footprints", an early version of "Miles Runs The Voodoo Down" plus a rare encore performance of "Spanish Key" from the Bitches Brew album. Durand Jones & the Indications aren't looking ... Morebackwards. Helmed by foil vocalists in Durand Jones and drummer Aaron Frazer, the Indications conjure the dynamism of Jackie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield, AND the Impressions. Even with an aesthetic steeped in the golden, strings-infused dreaminess of early '70s soul, the Indications' sophomore LP, American Love Call, is planted firmly in the present, with the urgency of this moment in time. The Indications' 2016 self-titled debut was the product of friends who met as students at Indiana University in Bloomington, In., recorded for $452.11, including a case of beer. American Love Call, the band's sophomore LP is instead the record the Indications dreamed of making, fleshed out with strings, backing vocals, and a newfound confidence in songwriting. Blending a slew of influences from years spent crate-digging, guitarist Blake Rhein says the Indications approach songs in the same way hip-hop producers do, as likely to pull inspiration from '70s folk-rock or classic R&B as they are Nas' Illmatic. "To hear a tape containing their earliest dem... Moreos, recorded on May 11, 1965, and locked away until now, is to hear traces of things rarely associated with The Velvet Underground: blues and folk, earthy and traditional, uncertain and hesitant... yet bristling with that rusty, caustic, Lou Reed spirit. It is a revelation." - Will Hodgkinson, MOJO. Light in the Attic Records, in cooperation with Laurie Anderson, proudly announces the inaugural title in their ongoing Lou Reed Archive Series: Words & Music, May 1965. Released in tandem with the late artist's 80th birthday celebrations, the album offers an extraordinary, unvarnished, and plainly poignant insight into one of America's true poet-songwriters. Capturing Reed in his formative years, this previously unreleased collection of songs-penned by a young Lou Reed, recorded to tape with the help of future bandmate John Cale, and mailed to himself as a "poor man's copyright"-remained sealed in it's original envelope and unopened for nearly 50 years. It's contents embody some of the most vital, groundbreaking contributions to American popular music committed to tape in the 20th century. Through examination of these songs rooted firmly in the folk tradition, we see clearly Lou's lasting influence on the development of modern American music - from punk to art-rock and everything in between. A true time capsule, these recordings not only memorialize the nascent sparks of what would become the seeds of the incredibly influential Velvet Underground; they also cement Reed as a true observer with an innate talent for synthesizing and distilling the world around him into pure sonic poetry.
