The Toronto rock band’s critically acclaimed thi... Morerd album, reissued on lemon yellow vinyl! If you’ve ever read a comic book, watched a science fiction movie, played freeze tag, or undertaken a top-secret intergalactic space mission, then you know all about the value of a good force field. Tokyo Police Club surely do, and in the four years since the band’s last album, our brave heroes from Toronto spent several long winters and many manic nights in their own fortress of solitude, learning to deflect that which would do them harm or lead them astray and to respect and to trust those they knew best: each other. Critically acclaimed, Orville Peck has long dreame... Mored of making Stampede, a duets album with singers, songwriters, and fellow musicians he’s long admired. And now, music icons, rebels and newcomers join hand-in-hand with Orville on his third full-length body of work to help create a two-part record that tips its hat to music’s past, present, and future. Orville just released the first part to this project Stampede: Vol.1 on 5/10 with duets such as Willie Nelson, Midland, Elton John, Allison Russell, Noah Cyrus, Bu Cuaron and Nathaniel Rateliff. Slant Magazine describes Volume 1 as "a reflection of both the singer’s dedication to the genre and his desire not to be confined by it." Less
Real Estate’s sixth full-length album Daniel was... More recorded in an ebullient nine-day spree in RCA Studio A, in Nashville with celebrated producer and songwriter Daniel Tashian. In 11 compulsively tuneful songs, they connect the uninhibited wonder of their earliest work with the earned perspective of adulthood. Martin Courtney actually learned of Tashian through his daughter, who adored an album he’d produced, Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour. The band reached out and spotted an instant connection despite their distinct wheelhouses—the Grammy-winning Nashville country-pop guy who’d helmed several smashes and the Northeast indie rock quintet with narcotic guitars. Real Estate had been thinking about R.E.M.’s Automatic for the People and ’90s “soft-rock radio,” the background music of their youth. Tashian helped lead them back toward it, toward an improved edition of the less self-conscious band they’d been at the start. Several days into recording, all five members of Real Estate were discussing album titles when someone suggested “Daniel,” simply because it seemed funny to bestow a human name upon a record. Was it for Daniel Tashian? Maybe. Was it a nod to The Replacements’ Tim? Possibly. Was it the sign of a band that has now been around long enough to take its music seriously without taking itself or its perception too seriously? Absolutely. Less

Hotly anticipated after their previous album TRIGGERED! which reached their record high of #6 on the UK Albums chart, Earth To Grace brings the anthemic muscle and punked-up gusto that Massive Wagons have made their name with, while adding a pinch of stardust that shoots the band into the stratosphere as master songcrafters. Ghosts of West Virginia centers on the Upper Big B... Moreranch coal mine explosion that killed twenty-nine men in that state in 2010, making it one of the worst mining disasters in American history. When asked about what drove him to craft his deeply evocative new album, Steve Earle says, “I thought that, given the way things are now, it was maybe my responsibility to make a record that spoke to and for people who didn’t vote the way that I did,” he says. “One of the dangers that we’re in is if people like me keep thinking that everybody who voted for Trump is a racist or an asshole, then we’re fucked, because it’s simply not true. So this is one move toward something that might take a generation to change. I wanted to do something where that dialogue could begin.” In ten deftly drawn, roughly eloquent, powerfully conveyed sonic portraits, Earle and his long-time band the Dukes explore the historical role of coal in rural communities. More than merely a question of jobs and income, mining has provided a sense of unity and meaning, patriotic pride and purpose “I said I wanted to speak to people that didn’t necessarily vote the way that I did,” he says, “but that doesn’t mean we don’t have anything in common. We need to learn how to communicate with each other. My involvement in this project is my little contribution to that effort. And the way to do that – and to do it impeccably – is simply to honor those guys who died at Upper Big Branch.” Less
Originally released in 1991, Holidays In Eden was ... MoreMarillion’s sixth studio album and second with Steve Hogarth on lead vocals. This version contains the brand-new 2022 stereo remix by Stephen W Tayler, released on the deluxe editions back in September. Their previous album and first with Hogarth, Season’s End, was written fairly quickly, leaning on a large amount of material already being written prior to Hogarth’s arrival. Holidays In Eden brought about a different challenge to the band’s new line-up, having to start from scratch with this new dynamic. The band faced their greatest commercial pressure yet from EMI, who wanted a couple radio-friendly singles. It set the path for pop-friendly Chris Neil to produce the album, who still desired, along with the band, for the rest of the album to be quintessentially Marillion. Holidays In Eden is a scintillating, compelling rock album, with tracks such as The Party and This Town effortlessly accompanying singles like No-One Can and Dry Land. Less
In James McMurtry’s new effort, The Horses and t... Morehe Hounds, the acclaimed songwriter backs personal narratives with effortless elegance (“Canola Fields”) and endless energy (“If It Don’t Bleed”). This first collection in seven years spotlights a seasoned tunesmith in peak form as he turns toward reflection (“Vaquero”) and revelation (closer “Blackberry Winter”). Familiar foundations guide the journey. “There’s a definite Los Angeles vibe to this record,” McMurtry says. “The ghost of Warren Zevon seems to be stomping around among the guitar tracks. Don’t know how he got in there. He never signed on for work for hire.” The Horses and the Hounds is a reunion of sorts. McMurtry recorded the new album with legendary producer Ross Hogarth (Ozzy Osbourne, John Fogerty, Van Halen, Keb’ Mo’) at Jackson Browne’s Groovemaster’s in Santa Monica, California. Hogarth recorded McMurtry’s first two albums, Too Long in the Wasteland and Candyland and later mixed McMurtry’s first self-produced album, Saint Mary of the Woods. Another veteran of those three releases, guitarist David Grissom (Joe Ely, John Mellencamp, Dixie Chicks), returns with some of his finest work. Less
John McCauley, III wrote, arranged, played, and re... Morecorded the album at the tender age of 21. The album is full of songs wiser and more nuanced than John should have been able to produce according to natural law. And the album concludes with a cover of the 1962 GRAMMYⓇ winning Song of the Year "What Kind of Fool Am I" made famous by Sammy Davis, Jr.It can safely be said that this debut album is a genre defying classic; it’s a hook filled barroom rock album that is as connected to 90’s Seattle catchy gloom as it is to left-of-the-dial late 80’s Minneapolis and 70’s Austin honky tonk. This version of the album finds us returning to the original ’07 illustrated cover.
