ON THE BEACH became a very special moment in the musical history of Neil Young. It was his fifth studio album, and was recorded with a stellar range of musicians, including Crazy Horse's rhythm section Billy Talbot (bass) and Ralph Molina(drums), along with other key players Ben Keith,Tim Drummond,Levon Helm (The Band), Rick Danko (The Band),Rusty Kershaw, David Crosby, Graham Nash and George Whitsell (The Rockets). Sessions were held at Young’s Broken Arrow Ranch in Northern California and Sunset Sound in Hollywood, and there was a definite feeling of expanding elements of musical styles being added to the playbook. The songs range from"See The Sky About To Rain" to "Ambulance Blues,"and explore the evolving counterculture in the 1970s in ways which had not been done. This was Young at his most adventurous, and pointed to several new musical directions for him, yet to be defined. This new anniversary limited edition of ON THE BEACH will be pressed on clear vinyl, with "50" added to the front cover, to mark the passage of time.

More an artist in possession of such power - capable of using her talent to perform the alchemy that turns our most savage and alienated experiences into the very elixir that cures them. Her critically beloved last album, Be the Cowboy, built on the breakout acclaim of 2016's Puberty 2 and launched her from cult favorite to indie star. She ascended amid a fever of national division, and the grind of touring and pitfalls of increased visibility influenced her music as much as her spirit. Like the mountain laurels for this new album is named, public perception, like the intoxicating prism of the internet, can offer an alluring façade that obscures a deadly trap-one that tightens the more you struggle. Exhausted by this warped mirror, and our addiction to false binaries, she began writing songs that stripped away the masks and revealed the complex and often contradictory realities behind them. She wrote many of these songs during or before 2018, while the album finished mixing in May 2021. It is the longest span of time Mitski has ever spent on a record, and a process that concluded amid a radically changed world. She recorded Laurel Hell with her longtime producer Patrick Hyland throughout the isolation of a global pandemic, during which some of the songs "slowly took on new forms and meanings, like seed to flower." Sometimes it's hard to see the change when you're the agent of it, but for the lucky rest of us, Mitski has written a soundtrack for transformation, a map to the place where vulnerability and resilience, sorrow and delight, error and transcendence can all sit within our humanity, can all be seen as worthy of acknowledgment, and ultimately, love. Moremary Hill EP begins, Sixpence None the Richer's first release since 2012, Leigh Nash sings, "In the eye of the storm, I'm gonna thread the needle." Now three decades after Nash met her musical partner Matt Slocum in New Braunfels, Texas, Sixpence is threading the needle in the sweet spot they have often longed for throughout a stormy yet momentous career. Slocum confesses that two of the six new songs are an attempt to immortalize their hometown: "New Braunfels was an amazing place to grow up... We could roam freely in the streets, from sunup to sundown." Nash adds, "Meeting Matt is the most important thing that happened for me in New Braunfels." That rings true for all of us; New Braunfels, Texas is the birthplace of Sixpence None the Richer, a great American rock 'n' roll band. Not the most fun band activity.As with most things ska in my life, what started out as a fun goof with friends eventually morphed into "Hey, what if we tried to make it good though?" All of us have a pretty deep history playing and touring the country in punk/ska bands. We all understand the stigma that comes along with ska, we've all dealt with the pitfalls of it, and we've all kept on truckin' regardless.
