On their 2016 album, Bad Vibrations, A Day to Remember claim to have approached the writing process with no expectations and organically came up with their finest work to date. According to Jeremy McKinnon, ADTR's frontman, this album "... came together organically. We took some time to get together and write with no real expectations," says the singer. The band took a trek up to Fort Collins, CO where they'd collaborate with Descendants' Bill Stevenson who produced the album. The lead single "Paranoia" raced up the Active Rock Charts upon release, and McKinnon recalls, "That song just kind of came out of nowhere one day-and we were all really pumped on it." Radio is just one key to this band's success, as touring is front and center to the ADTR master plan. The band has curated their own music Festival, dubbed Self Help Fest - since 2014 - with the attendance growing each year. Real Estate’s sixth full-length album Daniel was... More recorded in an ebullient nine-day spree in RCA Studio A, in Nashville with celebrated producer and songwriter Daniel Tashian. In 11 compulsively tuneful songs, they connect the uninhibited wonder of their earliest work with the earned perspective of adulthood. Martin Courtney actually learned of Tashian through his daughter, who adored an album he’d produced, Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour. The band reached out and spotted an instant connection despite their distinct wheelhouses—the Grammy-winning Nashville country-pop guy who’d helmed several smashes and the Northeast indie rock quintet with narcotic guitars. Real Estate had been thinking about R.E.M.’s Automatic for the People and ’90s “soft-rock radio,” the background music of their youth. Tashian helped lead them back toward it, toward an improved edition of the less self-conscious band they’d been at the start. Several days into recording, all five members of Real Estate were discussing album titles when someone suggested “Daniel,” simply because it seemed funny to bestow a human name upon a record. Thankfully, word later spread that they were also recording the magnificent Fall Tour of 1989. And then the equally great Spring Tour of 1990. Just before the Dead split for Europe in the Fall of 1990, they surprised their fans with the release of the long-awaited live album, showing off their late-Brent era excellence. Mixed from the 24-track analog master tapes, the album was a sonic wonder, filled with some of the best material played by the Dead on the last tours featuring Brent Mydland, who would pass away before the album was completed. Included on the album is a beautiful rendition of Dear Mr. Fantasy, a late addition to the track list, as a tribute to Brent, to whom the album is dedicated. Exhausted by this warped mirror, and our addiction to false binaries, she began writing songs that stripped away the masks and revealed the complex and often contradictory realities behind them. She wrote many of these songs during or before 2018, while the album finished mixing in May 2021. It is the longest span of time Mitski has ever spent on a record, and a process that concluded amid a radically changed world. She recorded Laurel Hell with her longtime producer Patrick Hyland throughout the isolation of a global pandemic, during which some of the songs "slowly took on new forms and meanings, like seed to flower."
