To emerge from a global pandemic with a renewed sense of situational awareness, hard won insight, and a new album is the kind of move we've come to expect from Thrice over the last twenty years. With Horizons/East, Dustin Kensrue and his bandmates address, with candor courage, the fragile and awkward arrangements that pass for cizilizilization. ation, while inviting us To dwell more knowingly within our own lives. Without surrendering any of the energy and hard edge of their previous albums, they've given us a profoundly meditative work that serves as a musical summons to everyday attentiveness.Since forming Thrice with guitarist Teppei Teranishi, bassist Eddie Breckenridge, and drummer Riley Breckenrin 1998, This mood is set by the opening synth-driven number "Color of the Sky," which sounds well suited to accompany the closing credits of the Stranger Things season finale. Think Flying Lotus giving way to Elbow and setting the listener down in a new dimension. A self-recorded effort, Horizons/East conveys a palpable sense of danger, determination, and possibility.

However, the move wouldn't last very long, and she was back in London by age 15, living on her own and pursuing a singing career. Longlisted for the prestigious BBC's Sound of 2016, Dua Lipa released "Hotter Than Hell" and "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)" in 2016, coinciding with a tour throughout the spring and summer. Nick Cave & Warren Ellis' score to "Blond... Moree", by Andrew Dominik an starring Ana De Arma, is out now on physical formats after previously being released on digital formats. Available on White (LSINV295LP), Pink (LSINV295LPPNK) or Red (LSINV295LPRED) vinyl. All variants come housed in a deluxe spined sleeve with double sided printed insert and digital download card included. The CD is presented as a jewel case with 4pp booklet. Blonde boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood's most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, Blonde blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves. The film also stars Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams. Cave and Ellis reflect on the making of the score: “Working with Andrew Dominik is always a challenging, but ultimately mind-blowing experience. Creating the score for this terrifying and complex reimagining of the Marilyn Monroe story was no different and, as always, it was a complete privilege to work with him. The darkest of films with a gorgeous spiritual score.” Dominik commenting on “Pearly”: “Pure yearning, always coming and never arriving, great beauty just out of reach.” Less

The Doors were a few months away from stardom in M... Morearch 1967 when they played five sparsely attended shows at a small club in San Francisco called The Matrix. These uninhibited performances would have been fleeting if not for Peter Abram, who co-owned the pizza parlor-turned-nightclub with Jefferson Airplane founder Marty Balin. An avid recordist, Abram taped concerts at The Matrix regularly and his recordings of The Doors, made between March 7-11, 1967, spawned one of the band’s most storied bootlegs. At long last, all known Matrix recordings, sourced entirely from Abram’s original master recordings, will be released on September 8. LIVE AT THE MATRIX 1967: THE ORIGINAL MASTERS will be available on September 8 as a 5-LP ($124.98) set. Production of the vinyl version is limited to 14,000 numbered copies worldwide. The band’s March 7 performance of the jazz instrumental “Bag’s Groove” is exclusive to the vinyl set and comes on a 7” single. “Bag’s Groove” is one of two never-before-heard recordings. Less

Limited 20th anniversary picture disc vinyl LP pre... Moressing. No Strings Attached is the second studio album by boy band NSYNC, originally released in March, 2000. Looking to distinguish their music from that of their labelmates, the band chose to incorporate pop and R&B styles. Prior to the release of the album, NSYNC separated from their management Trans Continental and their label RCA Records; it's title is a play on the idea of independence from corporate control. Contributions to the album's production came from a wide range of producers, including group members Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez and collaborators Kristian Lundin, Jake Schulze, Rami, Teddy Riley, Kevin "She'kspere" Briggs, Richard Marx, Veit Renn, Babyface, and Guy Roche. Rooney (named after the principal in Ferris Buelle... Morer’s Day Off) was formed in high school by singer-songwriter Robert Schwartzman, whose list of celebrity connections is long: brother to actor Jason Schwartzman, cousin to actor Nic Cage and director Sofia Coppola, and nephew of Francis Ford Coppola. But it wasn’t just celebrity that turbocharged Rooney’s rise; songs like “Blueside,” “I’m Shakin’,” and “I’m a Terrible Person” blend power pop with British Invasion and punk influences to create a sort of rock and roll classicism in the best sense of the word. That’s why none other than Johnny Ramone selected them for the Ramones tribute album We’re a Happy Family, and why the band were tabbed to tour with such cult faves as Weezer, The Strokes, and The Donnas (they also appeared as themselves in the first season of The O.C.). That’s also why their 2003 self-titled debut (produced by Jimmy Iovine among others) sold a cool half million copies…but somehow it’s never been out on LP. Our Real Gone release comes in metallic gold vinyl housed inside a jacket with printed inner sleeve. Another one of those early aughts records that’s way, way overdue for wax. Less
Long Island, New York's Taking Back Sunday debuted... More in 2002 with TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS, an album that encapsulated the more accessible side of the East Coast emo-core sound. The band garnered a loyal following by combining sparklingly clean production, a razor-sharp guitar sound, and vocals that mixed the youthful optimism and energy of pop-punk with rigorous self-examination. On WHERE YOU WANT TO BE, Taking Back Sunday improves on a winning formula by exploring more diverse arrangements while retaining the group's trademark melancholy forcefulness. On "Set Phasers to Stun," the ensemble cops a Police-like rhythmic vibe, while "New American Classic" is a moving acoustic ballad complemented by Nick Drake-like strings. On this sophomore outing, Taking Back Sunday shows it isn't afraid to venture into new sonic territory. Less

Pedro the Lion's 2004 release Achilles Heel is not... More only the band's final album to date but also the finest of their career. After the huge crossover success of 2002's Control, it was only a matter of time before David Bazan and company would fully realize their potential swan song. Beautifully achieved, Achilles Heel is crafted as a scathing glance into the crosshairs of the American dream, a heartbreaking sketch of husbandhood and ultimately an exploration of faith as told through eleven perfectly textured vignettes. Lyrically, dry wit and melancholy are marbled together, creating relaxed narratives with subtle and often profound depth. Less

After bursting on the scene with Ornette Coleman, ... Moretrumpeter Don Cherry went on to make some of the most interesting and collectible albums in modern jazz, particularly during the ‘70s, when he incorporated world music motifs into a singular style of jazz fusion. Produced by Narada Michael Walden, 1977’s Hear & Now was the only solo album Cherry recorded for Atlantic, and while it’s probably the most rock-heavy of any of the albums in his catalog, it still displays his signature eclecticism, incorporating Indian drones on “Mahakali” and African drums on the dazzling, album-ending suite “Journey of Milarepa/Shanti/The Ending Movement - Liberation (from Welkin of Infinity).” It also boasts a fantastic supporting cast with Michael Brecker, Collin Walcott, Marcus Miller, Tony Williams, Steve Jordan, and guitarist Stan Samole, who particularly shines. The Reverend Horton Heat ain’t just a person, or... More a band—it’s a state of mind. Drawing on such crazed rockabilly ancestors as Charlie Feathers, Hasil Adkins, and The Killer himself, James (Reverend Horton) Heath and his long-time bassist Jimbo Wallace have, over the course of the last 30-plus years, helped bring rockabilly kicking and screaming into the modern age, marrying punk with rockabilly to create the psychobilly genre. And, on their 2000 album Spend the Night in the Box—which, to burnish the “psycho” credentials, was produced by fellow Texan Paul Leary of Butthole Surfers fame—The Reverend Horton Heat struck gold (hence our gold vinyl edition!), going to #2 on the CMJ charts on the strength of such numbers as “Sue Jack Daniels,” “The Girl in Blue,” and other misbegotten tales of babes and booze. This is actually a bit of a return to a classic rockabilly/swing sound, powered by the Rev’s 1954 Gibson ES-175 and the rhythm section of Wallace and drummer Scott Churilla, but it’s no less (ahem) heated. Vinyl LP pressing, housed in a gatefold sleeve and... More includes digital download. The ten tracks that make up The Other represent a kind of psychic evolution for King Tuff. No less hooky than previous records, the new songs ditch the goofy rock-and-roll bacchanalia narratives of earlier records in favor of expansive arrangements, a diversity of instrumentation, and lyrics that straddle the fence between painful ruminations and a childlike, creative energy untarnished by cynicism. The soulful and cosmic new direction is apparent from the album's first moments: introduced by the gentle ringing of a chime, acoustic guitar, and warm organ tones, "The Other" is a narrative of redemption born of creativity. As Thomas sings about being stuck in traffic, directionless, with no particular reason to be alive, he hears the call of "the other," a kind of siren song that, instead of leading towards destruction, draws the narrator towards a creative rebirth. Elsewhere, tracks like "Thru the Cracks" and "Psycho Star" balance psychedelia with day-glo pop hooks. "The universe is probably an illusion, but isn't it so beautifully bizarre?" he asks on "Psycho Star," providing one of the record's central tenets. At a time when everything in the world feels so deeply spoiled and the concept of making meaning out of the void seems both pointless and impossible, why not try? Less
