British rock ruffians, Massive Wagons, are back with their seventh studio album, Earth To Grace. Hotly anticipated after their previous album TRIGGERED! which reached their record high of #6 on the UK Albums chart, Earth To Grace brings the anthemic muscle and punked-up gusto that Massive Wagons have made their name with, while adding a pinch of stardust that shoots the band into the stratosphere as master songcrafters.
Originally released in 1991, Holidays In Eden was ... MoreMarillion’s sixth studio album and second with Steve Hogarth on lead vocals. This version contains the brand-new 2022 stereo remix by Stephen W Tayler, released on the deluxe editions back in September. Their previous album and first with Hogarth, Season’s End, was written fairly quickly, leaning on a large amount of material already being written prior to Hogarth’s arrival. Holidays In Eden brought about a different challenge to the band’s new line-up, having to start from scratch with this new dynamic. The band faced their greatest commercial pressure yet from EMI, who wanted a couple radio-friendly singles. It set the path for pop-friendly Chris Neil to produce the album, who still desired, along with the band, for the rest of the album to be quintessentially Marillion. Holidays In Eden is a scintillating, compelling rock album, with tracks such as The Party and This Town effortlessly accompanying singles like No-One Can and Dry Land. Less

On August 5, exactly 10 years after its original r... Moreelease, Matador Records is reissuing Spoon’s beloved eighth album, ‘They Want My Soul,’ on all digital platforms, with a 2xLP gatefold vinyl release to follow in the fall. Along with the album’s original 10 tracks—including all-time Spoon classics “Inside Out,” “Do You,” and “Rent I Pay”— ‘They Want My Soul: Deluxe More Soul Edition’ includes 11 demos and alternate versions, almost all of them previously unreleased. The reissue underlines the album’s vaunted place amid one of rock’s most bulletproof catalogs and offers a glimpse at the creative process behind a pivotal moment in the ongoing Spoon story. It’s one thing for a band to last a long time. But it’s something completely different—and inordinately more difficult—for a band to make very good records for a long time. Spoon is one of those bands. How do they do it? By maintaining dignity in a world hellbent on sucking it out of each and every one of us. By being unafraid to introduce new voices and creative expressions in their work, while never taking a corny left turn just for the sake of it. By knowing when they need to stop and recharge—and when to come back with force. They make it all look easy. But ‘They Want My Soul: Deluxe More Soul Edition’ shows the hard work it takes to achieve greatness every damn time. Less

John McCauley, III wrote, arranged, played, and re... Morecorded the album at the tender age of 21. The album is full of songs wiser and more nuanced than John should have been able to produce according to natural law. The words are deliberate and heartfelt, and follow the lead of singer/songwriter heroes of John’s like Townes van Zandt, Neil Young and Richie Valens. And the album concludes with a cover of the 1962 GRAMMYⓇ winning Song of the Year "What Kind of Fool Am I" made famous by Sammy Davis, Jr.It can safely be said that this debut album is a genre defying classic; it’s a hook filled barroom rock album that is as connected to 90’s Seattle catchy gloom as it is to left-of-the-dial late 80’s Minneapolis and 70’s Austin honky tonk. This version of the album finds us returning to the original ’07 illustrated cover. This cover will become the new standard version of the album across all formats. The music and track listing remains the same. This limited edition of 2000 LPs is being pressed on Heavy Metal Grey vinyl (gun metal grey). Less
"The first three are innocent in a way, becau... Morese we didn't have an audience when we were making them," Oberst says. "But from Lifted on, I was definitely aware of an audience. Lifted was well-received right away, and then everything happened with Wide Awake and Digital Ash." Those two albums came out simultaneously. And their lead singles - "Take It Easy (Love Nothing)," from the austere, remote Digital Ash, and "Lua," from the warm, folky Wide Awake - debuted in the top two slots on the Billboard Hot 100. "First Day of My Life," also from Wide Awake, would later be voted the Number One love song of all time by NPR Music's reader's poll. Bright Eyes had officially broken through. It was a heady, exciting time, but also fraughtand tense, both because of the band's careening new fame, and because of the state of the world. When Bright Eyes made their Tonight Show debut in 2006, they chose to perform none of their shiny new hits, instead delivering a searing, harrowing rendition of their caustic anti-Bush anthem, "When The President Talks To God." These days, Oberst is still amusing himself by messing with the extremes Bright Eyes baked into this era's releases, extremes that reflected the polar, with-us-or-against-us, fractious feel of the times. The reworked Digital Ash tracks, originally so clean and elegant, are, on the companion EP, full of "harmonica and mandolins - folky vibes," Oberst says. While the analogue sweetness of the Wide Awake songs have been put through a detached nihilism filter. Less
Things that don’t make sense at first often make... More sense later. In the creation of art, when the process is left up to the subconscious mind, when there is no preconceived concept, patterns still always emerge. Limited vinyl LP pressing. Following on the mellow... More buzz generated on their 2015 debut album, Timeline, The Mild High Club returns with their second full-length, Skiptracing. In just over a calendar year, it's been quite the journey for Alexander Brettin, who is both founder and member of the Club. Brettin admits that for the first Mild High Club album he resorted to vague lyrics so as to highlight the music itself. But for Skiptracing there's both a heightened thematic aspect as well as more complex musical arrangements encasing it. In Brettin's estimation, the album's story arc is that of a "private investigator attempting to trace the steps of the sound and the spirit of American music." And in investigating the spirit of American music, The Mild High Club re-imagine AM radio hits as blasting in from a parallel universe, the sound of early ‘70s LA in a smog of sativa. If Todd Rundgren was the primary touchstone for Timeline, Brettin and band now look to the wry, trenchant wit of Steely Dan, gazing deep into the dark underbelly of sun-bright LA and coming away with a catchy song underpinned by slippery jazz phrasings. It's a cosmic connection that tethers The Mild High Club to fellow sonic brethren like Ariel Pink, Tame Impala, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Connan Mockasin and more. Less

Buffalo Tom (Bill Janovitz, Chris Colbourn and Tom... Released in 1990, songs from Birdbrain have become live favorites including the epic title track and “Enemy”. In 1992 the band recorded their third album Let Me Come Over with a varied group of songs they had been developing at home and on the road - mixing their live power trio sound with some more acoustic based guitar ballads. The album’s single “Taillights Fade” became their signature song. Released in 1993, Big Red Letter Day found the band doing what they do very well indeed, but with more body and gloss to the production. The album was recorded in LA by The Robb Brothers and features numerous favorites, in particular: “Sodajerk”, “I’m Allowed”, “Treehouse” and the classic “Late At Night.” Less

Without surrendering any of the energy and hard edge of their previous albums, they've given us a profoundly meditative work which serves as a musical summons to everyday attentiveness.Since forming Thrice with guitarist Teppei Teranishi, bassist Eddie Breckenridge, and drummer Riley Breckenridge in 1998, Kensrue has never been one to back down from a mental fight. This mood is set by the opening synth-driven number "Color of the Sky," which sounds well-suited to accompany the closing credits of the Stranger Things season finale.
