Arthur Baker helped codify the remixer as artist. His genre fluid approach to projects has resulted in a joyous myriad of classics that spans many decades. This 80 's focused Dance Masters collection offers a welcome glimpse at Baker's illustrious career and many long out of print 12" versions and previously unavailable mixes. This 43 track, four CD edition includes a wide array of selections from the likes of Robbie Nevil's "C'est La Vie", Fleetwood Mac's "Big Love," Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance", Jeffrey Osborne's "Soweto", Freeez's "I O U", Rockers Revenge's "Walking On Sunshine" and of course the juggernaut "Planet Rock" with Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force. Released in 1990, songs from Birdbrain have become live favorites including the epic title track and “Enemy”. In 1992 the band recorded their third album Let Me Come Over with a varied group of songs they had been developing at home and on the road - mixing their live power trio sound with some more acoustic based guitar ballads. The album’s single “Taillights Fade” became their signature song. Released in 1993, Big Red Letter Day found the band doing what they do very well indeed, but with more body and gloss to the production. Morealbum comes from the realization that the word 'Ma' is a very good candidate for our first utterance and our very last whisper, the word itself means 'Mother' in countless languages. The record contains 3 parallel narratives all pointing back to motherhood. The first is one of loss and helplessness, the narrative of a mother who reluctantly had to put up her child for adoption, still loving them, but unable to be with them. This became a metaphor for my own personal experience of observing my family in Venezuela, not being able to help in any meaningful way, and the constant feeling of complete helplessness. The second narrative is everything I would ever say to the children I may or may not have. The third narrative is one of celebration, of recognizing the Mother in each being, and of gratitude for music and its mothering qualities.Ma was recorded in Big Sur and Los Angeles, CA and was produced, arranged, and recorded with my longtime collaborator Noah Georgeson. If the album was released in 1977 as originally planned, it would certainly be considered as one of the masterpieces in Neil’s long career.
The album contains some of Neil’s most iconic songs: “Pocahontas”, “Like A Hurricane”, “Powderfinger”, Homegrown”, “Too Far Gone” and “Star of Bethlehem”. Most of the tracks were subsequently released on later Neil Young albums (e.g.: American Stars ‘N’ Bars, Hawks & Doves, Hitchiker, Archives Vol II), although Chrome Dreams includes unreleased versions of two much loved songs: “Sedan Delivery” and “Hold Back The Tears”. In November 1995, just as their song “Name” wa... Mores becoming their first hit, Goo Goo Dolls played their biggest live show to date. It was at the prestigious Academy Theatre in New York City, as part CMJ’s Music Marathon – an important annual convention at the time. The entire concert was recorded by a mobile recording truck, including the acoustic soundcheck that was performed in front of an audience of competition winners and broadcast on Tom Calderone’s show on a local radio station. Originally released in 1991, Holidays In Eden was ... MoreMarillion’s sixth studio album and second with Steve Hogarth on lead vocals. This version contains the brand-new 2022 stereo remix by Stephen W Tayler, released on the deluxe editions back in September. Their previous album and first with Hogarth, Season’s End, was written fairly quickly, leaning on a large amount of material already being written prior to Hogarth’s arrival. Holidays In Eden brought about a different challenge to the band’s new line-up, having to start from scratch with this new dynamic. The band faced their greatest commercial pressure yet from EMI, who wanted a couple radio-friendly singles. It set the path for pop-friendly Chris Neil to produce the album, who still desired, along with the band, for the rest of the album to be quintessentially Marillion. Holidays In Eden is a scintillating, compelling rock album, with tracks such as The Party and This Town effortlessly accompanying singles like No-One Can and Dry Land. Less
