The latter recordings are the earliest documented live performances of Miles's band when he hired the keyboardists Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett, along with saxophonist Steve Grossman who had replaced Wayne Shorter. The rest of the rhythm section - bassist Dave Holland, drummer Jack DeJohnette and percussionist Airto Moreira - were the backbone of his band throughout this explosive period. She wrote many of these songs during or before 2018, while the album finished mixing in May 2021.
